When more than one person wants the same domain
The moment a second backorder is placed on a dropping domain, a 72-hour auction starts among the backorder holders. The auction ends before the domain drops, so it runs shorter if the drop is close. Bids are placed in the Client Area, and the winner gets the registration when the domain drops.
Rules
Who takes part?
Only those who placed a backorder on that domain. Anyone who places a backorder while the auction is running joins it too.
Bid increment
Each new bid must be at least $5 above the current bid.
Hidden maximum bid
The amount you enter on your backorder is your maximum. The system bids for you only as much as needed, up to your maximum; the price ends up one increment above the second-highest maximum. Your maximum is never shown to anyone.
Last-minute extension
If a bid comes in with less than 10 minutes to go, the end moves to 10 minutes after that bid. A last-second bid can't snatch the win.
Payment
The winning bid is charged to your saved card once the domain is caught; a one-year registration is included.
If you don't win
Nothing is charged. If the domain isn't caught, the winning bid isn't charged either.
